Although our ideal is to become involved in a home construction or remodeling project in its early stages so that we can help with “green” decisions at every step along the way with no cost for making changes, it is not uncommon for Green Home Consulting to be retained after the initial schematics or possibly an entire set of architectural documents has been prepared. By retaining GHC before contractor bidding, the client avoids potentially costly “change orders” that occur when a change is requested later.

GHC reviews the entire set of architectural plans and any accompanying specifications. Our goal is to identify areas where the project could become more “green” without changing the aesthetic. This may involve changes to insulation materials and the installation locations, small changes in windows to increase comfort, green materials choices and other changes to increase indoor air quality, water quality issues, HVAC and hot water considerations and so on.
