Double the size of a small home to accommodate a growing family without increasing energy costs.
The client began the project with our Green Building Checklist and identified priorities to optimize energy efficiency within their strict budget. The initial focus was on steps to achieve the tightest possible building envelope. Green Home Consulting then advised on HVAC options sized to reflect their tight home, ultimately resulting in the choice of a geothermal heating and cooling system. Existing solar thermal was repurposed for hot water generation and solar photovoltaic was added to meet some of the clients’ electricity needs. Green cabinets were chosen for the kitchen and low VOC paint was used throughout, which, combined with the Energy Recovery Ventilation system and other green building materials, results in high indoor air quality.
